SURPRISINGLY, IT wasn’t that late when he arrived at Philip’s house, not even 6:00 p.m. No wonder Philip wasn’t there. Stuart let himself in and disarmed the alarm system. He texted Philip to let him know he was there and then got to unpacking. The textbooks he left in an untidy heap in the family room, but the clothing he took upstairs to Philip’s bedroom and put them away on the shelves set aside for his use in that cavernous closet.

Back downstairs, Stuart found himself at loose ends. He knew he should probably work on something for dinner, but he also knew this was his last free evening for the foreseeable future. He poked around in Philip’s refrigerator, but there wasn’t much that inspired him, and he’d never really learned to cook. His parents had never encouraged that, saying it wasn’t for boys, and once school had started, he’d simply never had the time.

He ended up on the large leather sofa in the family room. He loved that sofa, and not only for the obvious reasons, although yes, it was still one of their favorite places to have sex. For that reason alone, Stuart got a semi every time he sat down on it. Good times.

He pulled out his phone and texted Valerie: Is this a good time 2 call?

When his sister didn’t reply right away, Stuart settled back and pulled a small throw over him. Sure, he could’ve turned the air conditioner down, but that necessitated moving and the blanket was right there at his feet.

Right as he started to doze off, his phone buzzed.
